Ahaadeeth and Sunnats of Traveling
It is Sunnah to bring back
gifts for one’s family
when returning from a journey
64.) Nabi (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi waSallam) said :
“When you return from a journey, bring
back some gifts for your family members.”
[Hazrat Ayesha (RA) ]
65.) Nabi (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi waSallam) said :
“When you return from a journey, bring
some gifts for the people at home, even if it means bringing back stones in
your bag.”
[Hazrat Abu Darda (RA)]
-
‘Bringing back stones’ could
be implied literally – where it would mean beautiful stones of a foreign land.
- Secondly, it could be to said
to stress the importance of bringing back something, no matter how
insignificant it may be.
- When a man goes on a journey,
his family members naturally anticipate some type of gift upon his return.
Allamah Munawi (Rahmatullah ‘alayh) has written that it is mustahab to bring back something for one’s wife, children and
servants, which would please them and make them happy.
