Virtue of death as a traveler

43.) Nabi (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi waSallam) said : “The death of a traveler is martyrdom.”
[Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Abbas (RA) ]

44.) Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Umar (RA) narrates that a person who was born in Madina Tayyiba passed away in Madina Tayyiba. Nabi (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi waSallam) performed his Janaza Salaah and said : ‘If only he had passed away in a place other than his hometown.”

A Sahabi (RA) enquired : “And why is that so, O Messenger of Allah ?”

Nabi (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi waSallam) said : “If a person passes away from his hometown, he is granted a paradise the size of the distance between his hometown and the place of his death.”

-      The above only applies if the person has undertaken a righteous journey.

Reward of actions upheld whilst at home.

Safeguarding one’s belongings on a journey

41.)  Nabi (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi waSallam) said : “When you camp at any place and offload your luggage, draw a circle around it and say :

لَا شَرِيْكَ لَه     رَبِّيْ  اَللّٰهُ

“Allah is my Lord. He has no partner.”

This will ensure the safety of one’s belongings.
 [Hazrat Uthmaan (RA)]

     -     A person should be extra vigilant of his belongings whilst on a journey, as the loss of basic items could make the situation very unpleasant.

Method of Sleeping (40)

Bismihi Ta’ala

Ahaadeeth and Sunnats of Traveling

The Sunnah method of sleeping whilst on a journey

40.)   When Nabi (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi waSallam) was on a journey, he would sleep on his right side as usual if he camped during the early part of the night. However, if he (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi waSallam) camped during the latter part of the night, he would keep his forearm upright and place his head in his palm.

[Hazrat Abu Qatadah (RA) - Sahih Muslim]

-      This manner was adopted to ensure that a deep sleep did not overcome him, thereby endangering the Fajr Salaah.

36.)   Nabi (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi waSallam) said : “The reward for spending for Hajj is equivalent to the reward for spending in Jihaad; one (dirham or dinaar, etc) is multiplied seven hundred times.”
[Hazrat Buraydah (RA) ]

37.)    Nabi (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi waSallam) said: “Those traveling to perform Hajj and ‘Umrah are the guests of Allah. He grants them what they ask for, answers their supplications, and replaces what they had spent, one to a thousand fold.”
[Hazrat Abu Hurairah(RA) ]

38.)   Nabi (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi waSallam) said to Sayyidah Ayesha (RA) during her ‘Umrah : ‘Your reward will be according to the hardships endured and the expenses incurred (to fulfill this obligation).”
